What a raw, devastating thing that is, to embrace your humanity and learn to live with all your sharp points, the hollow places, the cracks and the crevices. It shames you because it’s only in the truth that you realize how human you really are. It shamed me to think it then, it shames me to think it now.īut that’s what the truth does to you sometimes.

Karina Halle truly outdid herself with this book! Everything comes together with the brilliant writing and a fantastic cast to make a gorgeous story. The beautiful atmosphere, the mouthwatering food, the gorgeous water are all depicted perfectly. Heat Wave is a captivating read and will envelop all of your senses. I loved watching her work through her insecurities and discover just how brave she truly is.

Ronnie is so strong, but she never measures up to her sister, and her mother never lets her forget. (The fact that he’s a younger version of Hugh Jackman certainly doesn’t hurt, either!) I really liked Logan when he was gruff and grumpy, but I really loved him when he was talking dirty and being all sweet and mushy. They are like oil and water, and it makes for a delicious, explosive, somewhat forbidden, somewhat enemies-to-lovers, somewhat second-chance romance. I felt bad for both Ronnie and Logan and their situation–betrayal and guilt run deep on both sides. Even from the prologue, you know that things are about to get very interesting. This book had me feeling all of the things! I loved Ronnie and Logan’s tumultuous relationship from the very first page. Sparks fly from the moment Logan comes face to face with Ronnie again and a burn-down-the-house combustible relationship follows. Several years later, Logan finds himself a widower, very alone and extremely grumpy.Īfter Ronnie’s unceremonious dismissal from her job in Chicago, she winds up becoming his employee at his hotel in Hawaii. Logan always wonders “what if” after marrying Juliet and losing touch with Ronnie. She’s sure of it…until he meets her sister. She feels an immediate and undeniable connection with him. While attending yet another party for her mother, Ronnie meets Logan, the enigmatic man with a delicious accent. She’s always lived in the shadow of her perfect sister, Juliet. Veronica is the disappointing daughter of the deputy mayor of Chicago, is a disgraced chef, and has appointed herself as the black sheep of her prestigious family.

What could be more magical than an emotional and fiery love story set in the tropical surroundings of Hawaii? I couldn’t ask for anything more, as Karina Halle transports us to the beautiful, sun-filled beaches during the day and steams up the nights with the sizzling romance between Logan and Veronica.
